Microsclerotherapy

What is Microsclerotherapy?

Microsclerotherapy is the non-surgical way to remove thread veins also known as spider veins.

Thread veins are thin veins on the surface of the skin. They can occur due to genetic reasons; they also develop during hormonal changes and frequently appear on women’s legs during pregnancy.

Microsclerotherapy is an effective form of treatment for spider veins that are found on the legs and body. It should not be used on the face.

Patients in Billericay, Brentwood and Essex are opting for Microsclerotherapy because it is a non-surgical way to remove thread veins and is as effective as laser treatment. This painless treatment is completely safe when administered by a professional clinician.

How does Microsclerotherapy work in Billericay?

Microsclerotherapy involves injecting a chemical into a patch of skin with thread veins. The chemical reacts with the spider veins, which are then removed by the body’s white blood cells.

The body does not need these spindly thread veins; instead, the blood flows through veins that run deeper below the skin.

FaceKind in Billericay uses the chemical Fibrovein which is a sterile and clear solution and is safe for the use in treating spider veins.

How is Microsclerotherapy administered in Billericay?

At your first consultation at FaceKind in Billericay, we will assess your spider veins and ensure that they are suitable for treatment with Microsclerotherapy.

On the day of treatment, your skin will be cleaned and then a series of injections using a fine needle will be administered to the area of skin which has thread veins.

The process does not hurt, and you will only feel a small pinprick of the needle entering the skin.

After treatment, the veins will turn a dark colour. The finer thread veins should disappear between 4 to 6 weeks. Larger veins can take several months to disappear.

To achieve the best results with Microsclerotherapy, the spider veins should be constantly compressed after treatment. Patients should wear compression stockings after the procedure and your practitioner will advise you on how long these should be worn for. You are encouraged to resume your usual activities after Microsclerotherapy.

Are there any side effects in using Microsclerotherapy?

Any side effects tend to be caused by the injection entering the skin. You may experience some redness or light bruising from the needle.

Other forms of side effects are rarer and will be discussed with you at your consultation. These include:

+ Mild itching for a day or two after treatment.
+ Some patients may find that the spider veins do not clear but show as brown lines which take 6-12 months to disappear.
+ In some instances, very fine veins develop after treatment but usually disappear with more treatment.
+ Allergic reactions to Microsclerotherapy injections are extremely rare.
